Overlooking the Beauty

Yesterday I strolled through a local botanical garden with my new camera by my side. I was searching for the perfect shot. It was getting hot and there just didn’t seem to be as many ‘floral candidates’ as on most visits. So I turned to the Magnolia tree … there it was, loaded with blooms. On any other day I might have gone right past that tree which was loaded with lovely blooms … instead I would be looking for something maybe more colorful or novel. But today I stopped and really looked at this classic beauty of a tree. I zoomed in on its bounty and I am so glad I did. Had I not, I would have missed my best shots of the day.

How often I must do this in day-to-day life, rushing through the day and perhaps missing the best parts. I hope you find the best parts of your day today!

A ‘Captured’ Lily

“To be really happy and really safe, one ought to have at least two or three hobbies, and they must all be real.”
Winston Churchill

If it is possible, I have to say I may have too many hobbies which I love. Two which give me much pleasure are photography and painting. I have taken thousands of photographs over the last few years, and painting, well, not so much. But recently, when I got out those tubes of paint again after a too-long sabbatical, I could not resist painting a lily, inspired from a photograph of one of the purple beauties growing in my garden last summer. There are those who feel that painting from a photograph is ‘taboo’, but while there is snow on the ground here, I still remembered the feeling of viewing that lily in all its splendor!

The Beauty of the Lilies

I really enjoy nature photography. Although the lilies on the small hillside in my backyard were very sparse this year, it did not stop me from zeroing in on the beauties that did manage to display their colorful heads.

Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. – Luke 12:27 (KJV)
